July Favourites

This month has flown by (again) – I cannot believe we are already more than half way through the year! I’ve found this month I haven’t been spending as much time down the yard as I’ve been working quite a few more hours. Luckily both of my parents are now off work for the summer, so they have been kindly keeping an eye on Blossom.

So this months favourites will be about the products  that I have been using (and loving), instead of the usually horse products. I hope maybe next months favourites will be more about the horsey product again!

L’Oreal Genius Aloe Water

I have been using this moisturiser both in the morning and before going to bed. In the evening I apply it after I have cleansed and toned my face and neck. I like the idea that it is a liquid moisturiser instead of a cream and you only have to use a small amount (around the size of a pea). It does not make my skin feel oily and my skin looks hydrated and refreshed. I have also noticed that the redness on my cheeks has become more subtle (I’m not sure whether it is the moisturiser or something else within my skin routine).

L’Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Shampoo & Conditioner

I have only been using both the shampoo and conditioner for the last week of July and I have to say that it has made such a difference to my hair. After using it for the first time my hair was so much softer and looked so much more healthier just after the one use! Again a little goes a long way.

Benefit: It’s Potent! Eye Cream

Again another skin care product which I have really been enjoying. I have been using this in the evening before bed. It helps with the puffiness under my eyes and just makes me feel refreshed before going to bed! I have only got the miniature size at the moment but I will defiantly be buying the full sized version!

Soap & Glory Archery Volu-Boost Brow Fibre Gel

I am a big fan of the Soap & Glory products and especially this product. I do not wear a lot of make up on a regular basis, but I do like to make sure my eyebrows look nice. This product really helps with it, as it it tinted – so there is no need to fill in my brows. And second of all, it include small fibres to make my brows look fuller. This product makes it quick and easy to do my brows in the morning rush!

The Shopaholic Book Series by Sophie Kinsella

I have really been enjoying reading this series, especially after a long day at work – it helps me to wind down by getting my nose into a book. I find I really connect with the main character Rebecca Bloomwood, as we both have love of spending money!

I have already read – Confessions of a Shopaholic (Book 1), Shopaholic Abroad (Book 2), Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Book 3), Shopaholic & Sister (Book 4) and Shopaholic & Baby (Book 5).

I am currently reading the 6th book – Mini Shopaholic, which I am loving. I have not been able to put down the whole series and they are such an easy read and a page turner!

Goodreads App

This app has really helped me with keeping track of what page I am on in a book. It keeps a percentage on how far you have read and after you have finished the book you can rate it – which in the long run the app will give you suggestions of other books that you may enjoy.

I also like the idea that you can keep track of which books you have read and books that you are wanting to read in the future. The app also includes reviews of books, allowing you to see if it is the right book for you. You can also leave reviews yourself, to let others know on how much you enjoyed the book.

The other reason why I love this app is because you can download it for FREE!

I hope you enjoyed this slightly different blog post. I will be back to the horsey post as soon as I can (there are some scheduled for the next few weeks).

Product Review – SleekEZ Grooming Tool

Product Overview

This product is a grooming tool, which helps to remove loose hair and dirt. It can work along side a body brush and stable rubber can give the coat a nice shine.

The blade has a tooth pattern which is unique to the SleekEZ and helps to remove as much hair as possible.

It comes in threes sizes: 2.5″ – which can be used on cats, dogs and horses, 5″ – which can be used on cats, dogs and horse and 10″ – which can be used on horses.

Prices range from £19.99 – £28.99 (depending of size!)

Thoughts of Product

I have been using the 5″ blade. Overall I think this product is great – I think everyone should have one in their grooming kits! It removes any excess hair effectively and with ease. The wooden handle is easy to hold and is very simple to use. Not only does it remove any excess hair but also help to draw any dirt and dust from the coat.

I am going to rate this product – 4/5.

I would defiantly recommend this product to other horse owners!

One of Blossom’s ‘Special’ Moments – The Hay Box

So today I went down to see Blossom after I had finished work, to go and give her feed and put some fly spray on. As I went down I couldn’t see her standing in her usual place by the gate, but was grazing instead.

I call her over and she comes walking to the gate, she has her feed and I apply some fly spray while she was eating. It’s then she starts acting odd, she goes to eat some hay from her hay box but stretches to get it and then quickly pulls some out.

Look at those donkey ears!

She continues doing this very cautiously, so I grab some hay out of the box and give it to her. She takes it out of my hand after snorting at me and walking backwards to try and get away. I them leave her be and sit down on the other side of the fence just to she what she does. She goes back over to the hay box, but stands with a bit of distance between her and the box. Where every so often she would cautiously take a slight step forward and stretch her neck out to try and get some hay, but would then start snorting.

She keeps doing this for about 5 minutes and in the end I shuffle the hay around the box, to which I find after that she is happier to eat from it.

I came to the conclusion that it may have been some older hay that someone had put on her box and she wasn’t sure on the scent. Or she possible could of zapped her self on the fence and had scared herself.

As I was walking back up the hill to the yard, I saw that she was standing happily eating hay from the box. She is one silly pony!

I hoped you enjoyed this post – I thought it would be funny to share!

Fighting Off The Flies

Oh my goodness – the flies are terrible this year. Poor Blossom is covered in fly bites and is constantly irritated by them landing on her – I think I may have to invest in a fly rug!

I’m finding the best fly repellent at the moment is the Power Phaser Durativ Gel by Leovet – it’s easy to apply and you apply it the face too.

I’m currently trying out the Imperial Leather Original Talcum Powder, as I saw that someone on a horsey group I am part of on Facebook had said it works as it contain Benzyl Benzoate and Citronellol – which apparently helps with repelling flies. I am still trying it out to see if it works! I’ll soon let you know how it goes.

I’ve been putting a fly mask on Blossom most days to help keep the flies out of her eyes. I did try a fly fringe, but after about 5 hours of wearing it she had it hanging on one side of her face, where it was not doing it job!

Silly pony!
Hopefully the flies do not get worse!

Product Review – Leovet 5 Star Detangler

Product Overview

This product is a mane and tail detangler – spraying a small amount through the mane and tail will help to comb through and tackle any knots, whilst creating a nice shine on the hair. It also has specific ingredients added which help to soothe itching, moisturise dry skin, stimulate hair growth and increase volume of hair.

It comes in a white bottle with a red spray nozzle and the bottle size is 750ml.

RRP £10.50 (on average)

Thoughts on Product

I really liked this product and it had a great outcome after using it. It left Blossom’s mane and tail feeling very soft and knot free, it also had a lasting effect – I found that Blossom mane and tail was still very soft and easy to manage after applying the detangler 24 hours ago! The product was easy to apply to the mane and tail via the spray nozzle which work brilliantly and evenly distributed the product. Also it smelt great and didn’t leave the mane and tail feeling greasy.

I am going to rate this product 5/5 stars – I found this product great to use and would recommend this to others!

*Disclaimer* I am not sponsored by any of these companies, I Have purchased all these products with my own money. All opinions about these products are my own.

Horseware Turnout Guide App – First Impressions & Review

Horseware now have an app! It is a turnout guide to help horse owners put the right rug on their horses.

App Overview

First, you create a profile for your horse and fill out information about their location, age, breed, condition, whether they are clipped and if they are a pony. After you have filled out this information you can add a picture of the horse to their profile.

After this has all been completed, it then directs you onto the updated profile for the selected horse, where it gives you the weather forecast for 5 days (both morning and night) and shows a recommendation of what rug your horse should be wearing – it will update every time you open the app.

Within the app, you are also able to try on the Horseware rug range with the ‘Try It On’ option – you have a choice multiple styles from 3 ranges; Rambo, Rhino & Amigo. You then chose the desired rug and can apply to the chosen horses profile picture. It will also show you where you can purchase the rugs with the ‘Where To Buy’ option.

There is also the ‘Blanket Decoder’, where it gives you all the information about Horseware rugs and their features. There is also a guide on how to measure your horse for rugs with the ‘How To Measure’ option on the Menu.

The App is available on iTunes and Google Play and is free to download!

Horse Profile – Tailored Made to Each Horse

 Thoughts on App

I really like the idea of this app – I am a worrier when it comes to rugging Blossom, I never know whether I am over-rugging or under-rugging her. This app gives me peace at mind and makes the decision on what rug to put on her for me!

It is easy to use and I like the concept of being able to ‘try on’ rugs, as well as a guide of how to measure and fit rugs.

The best part about this app is that it is free to download!

I have given this app 5/5 stars because it is a very useful app – it tailors what type of rug to put on each horse by the information you put on their profile.

I think every horse owner should download this app – it’s a must have!!

June Favourites

I cannot believe it is July already! I thought I would do a post on few of the products that I have been loving over the month of June!

NAF Cooling Wash –

This has been really useful over the last few weeks due to the warm weather. Blossom has been sweating just standing out in the field, so I have been using a cap full of the cooling wash in a bucket of water to wash her. It smells really nice and I think Blossom has liked it too, as it helps to cool her down and relax. I find a little goes a long way!

Cowboy Magic Greenspot Stain Remover –

As it is Summer, Blossom isn’t wearing any rugs at the moment, which means only one thing… Grass stains! She likes to roll and lie down to get as grubby as possible. I have been using the Cowboy Magic Greensport Stain Remover on any stains that I wish to remove (there has been quite alot!!). You spray on the area of the stain, then work it in with a brush (I use a rubber curry comb), wait 5 minutes for it to work it’s magic and finally wipe it off with a damp cloth. You will have a squeaky clean horse with NO stains at the end. And in my case it will last all of 5 minutes before Blossom decides to go and roll again!!

Le Mieux Snug Boots

I only got these boots at the end of June and have only used them a few times. But I have to say that these are one of the best sets of boots I have ever used! They are so quick and easy to put on and take off. They are breathable, which is perfect for the summer. They support tendons and ligaments, as well as protecting the legs from knocks and bump. Last of all they look high end without breaking the bank!

Acavello Snaffle Socks –

These socks are amazing! They are so comfy and soft, they are so easy to put on (I find some socks a such a pain to get on!). I’ve worn them a couple of times now and I’ve found that they do not make your feet hot, especially since here in Suffolk the weather is quite humid/hot at the moment. Plus I really like the snaffle design!

So these are some of the products I have be loving over the month of June. We also got mentioned on the Supreme Products Facebook – how exciting! Blossom is famous (kind of!).

Le Mieux Snug Boots – First Impressions

So I have treat Blossom to a two sets of the Le Mieux Snug Boots. I’ve had my eyes on these for a while, as I have been looking for a pair of boots which help to support her legs and at the same time are breathable. And as I had some money left over from my birthday, I thought why not treat her to some.

I got a pair of front and a pair of hind boots, which I got in size Medium. And I chose the black option, as I thought it go with her tack (I like to be colour co-ordinated!).

The boots were £42.50 per pair.

First Impressions

I really like these boots – they look smart and are really easy to put on and take off. They fit Blossoms leg perfectly. The boots have a protective back that helps to protect the tendons and ligaments within the lower leg from knocks will the horse is working. I really like the straps, with the ‘Le Miuex’ detailing on the bottom strap and the poppers that secure the boot are so much easier to use. The boots are really light.

Overall, I am very impressed with the boots and am looking forward to using them more in the future!

Product Review – Supreme Products Mane & Tail Builder

Product Overview

This is a topical product to aid the re-growth of rubbed manes and tails. It contains cade oil, giving it a ‘wood smokey smell’ and also includes UV filters preventing sun burn.
This product helps with:

  • Promoting mane and tail re-growth;
  • Calming skin conditions;
  • Aiding hair re-growth on rubbed skin patches.

Prior to using this product, it is recommended to do a patch test on a small area on the inside of a back leg.

For the best results it should be applied once a day for the first 4-7 days and then applied every 2-3 days.

RRP £13.99 for 250ml

It is avaliable on: supremeproducts.co.uk

Thoughts on Product

I really liked this product – it does what is says on the bottle. Blossom started off with a patch of mane which was about an inch long (due to one of her rugs rubbing it out during the winter!) and after using the product for a month and a half, it has now grown about 3-4 inches and has restored the thickness as well.

I applied the Mane & Tail Builder with a sponge and applied once a day for the first week and then every other day.

I was advised by the lovely Supreme rep who came into the shop a while back to use this product along with the High Shine shampoo and Moisturise & Condition spray. I washed the rubbed area once a week with the High Shine shampoo and applied the Moisturise & Condition after the area was dry. I found that these products really helped to get a better result.

I begun applying it on the 8th of April.

Day 8 (16th April) –

I could defiantly notice a difference in just over a week. At this time I had pulled the rest of Blossom’s mane to tidy it up and then plaited it to help lay her mane.

Day 14 (22nd April) –

By this time there was a noticeable difference from day 1 and 8, the area was now a lot thicker and it had grown by about half an inch. I had been plaiting it along with the rest of her mane it keep everything in place.

Day 40 (16th May) –

We have now been using this product for over 5 week and we have now have a lot more mane! The affected area is now nearly the same length as the rest of her mane. All I need to do now is to pull the rest of her mane to level everything out!

So it has been about four months since I started using Supreme Products Mane and Tail Builder and I have to say that you cannot tell that four months ago Blossom had part of her Mane missing.

Her mane is now to all the same thickness and length. Where it looks like nothing ever happened!

Blossom’s mane after using Supreme Products Mane and Tail Builder

I am going to rate this product – 5/5.
This product is a Spring must have!
I really like the scent of this product, it is easy to apply and does what it says on the bottle! I was able to see a slight difference within a week! Just remember it will not happen instantly – regrowth of hair will take it time!
I would recommend this product to anyone who has problems with manes/tails being rubbed out!We were featured on the Supreme Products Facebook page, how exciting! Blossom is famous (kind of!!).

The Joys of Owning a Good Doer

As you may be able to tell from the title, I own a good doer. Blossom is a chunky cob who can put on weight by just looking a food! It does not help that she has had chronic laminitis in the past, so she is on a strict diet to help try and keep her weight down. Which is quite a challenge, as she is not able to do much work.

Recently I’ve had to cut her feed down by quite a bit. She now only has a handful of chop and a few high fibre nuts, along with her supplements to help support her joints and maintain soundness.

She lives in a small paddock with limited grass, but has adlib hay available in her field. She also has a mineral lick attached to the side of hay box.

Treats are only given once every so often as a reward. And every so often she is allowed a fibre block – which are her favourite.

I tend to weigh her (with a weigh tape) every week, to make sure she is either maintaining or loosing a little bit of weight.

Keeping her in tip top condition can be quite hard, especially with working full time and trying to fit in studying as well. But I do try and make sure she is my top priority.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. Hopefully I didn’t ramble on too much!
